Welcome back toTuesday Tasting! Today we’re sipping on a crowd-pleaser that’s been winning over tastebuds for two decades—Blueberry Wheat from Ellicottville Brewing Company. At 4.8% ABV and a breezy 11 IBUs, it’s light, fruity, and frankly... way too easy to keep drinking.
Founded in 1995 after a ski trip-inspired epiphany, Ellicottville Brewing Co. brought authentic craft beer to the slopes of western New York before it was cool (literally and figuratively). With five brewpubs, a massive production facility, and a 20,000-barrel annual output, they’ve built their brand around flavor, hospitality, and the motto: "Brewed to Entertain". Mission accomplished.
Pours: Light golden with a quickly fading white head. Sometimes topped with real blueberries when served on draft—yes, we’re serious.
Nose: Blueberry muffin straight out of the oven. Hints of dried blueberries, granola, and a little bready sweetness.
Flavor: Mellow blueberry notes ride over a light wheat base. Think toasted biscuit, granola, and a splash of blueberry. It’s not a sugar bomb, and that’s a good thing.
Mouthfeel: Light body, semi-prickly carbonation, and just smooth enough to forget you’re on beer number three.
Blueberry Wheat is the beer version of brunch with your most tolerable in-laws—pleasant, a little fruity, and just enough complexity to keep you coming back. It’s not going to challenge your palate, but it’s not supposed to. It’s a reliable, refreshing go-to that you’ll find yourself reaching for all year long.
Whether you’re pairing it with herbed chicken, fruity desserts, or just a lawn chair and some sun, this one's a win.
Cheers to blueberries that don’t pretend to be dessert!
